What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle, body-oriented relaxation method developed in Japan by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. The word roughly means "universal life energy". During a Reiki treatment, the hands are placed calmly on the clothed body or held a short distance above it.
At STUDIO B we see Reiki as a space for deep relaxation and regulation: the steady, calm presence of the hands invites the nervous system to shift from everyday mode into rest.
What happens in a Reiki treatment in Berlin
- Arriving & preliminary talk – How are you? Are there any topics, wishes or areas that should not be touched?
- Treatment – you lie clothed and covered on a treatment table. The hands rest in turn on your head, shoulders, belly, knees and feet, or hover just above them.
- Settling – a few minutes of silence before you slowly come back.
- Closing – a short exchange about what you noticed.
Many people experience warmth, tingling, heaviness or a state between waking and sleeping. Some fall asleep – that's fine too.

What does research say about Reiki?
Research on Reiki is growing: a meta-analysis of randomised trials with more than 800 participants (Guo et al., 2024) shows a clear reduction in anxiety after Reiki. Earlier reviews found indications of less pain and anxiety (Thrane & Cohen, 2014). Several clinics, such as cancer centres in the US, now offer Reiki as a complementary therapy.
